These areas were not addressed by home health agencies, or other senior organizations, so she formed Alongside Senior Services to provide that extra assistance to seniors, helping them maintain their independence. Lake Cares Food Pantry opened on April 4, 2009, with a short-term intention of helping those in the community who were affected by the economic conditions of the time. The goal was to serve 25 families a week, today they serve more than 275 families a week, and the numbers keep growing. Hunger does not discriminate; their clients come from all age groups and ethnicities, from poor to middle-class families and most concerning is the number of seniors and individuals with disabilities we serve.
